Sinus Dysrhythmias Flashcards
what causes sinus arrhythmia
results from changes in intrathroacic pressure w/ breathing
the breath impacts the firing of the SA
characteristics of sinus arrhythmia
-P/QRS/T are all WDL
-rate is between 60-100
-rhythm is irregular
completely normal and not a problem -> do not treat
when may sinus bradycardia be a normal finding
in well conditioned athletes and during sleep
what causes sinus brady (9)
-excessive vagal (parasympathomimetic) stimulation
-digitoxin toxicity
-hyperkalemia (slows depolarization)
-MI
-vomiting/gagging
-valsalva maneuver
-applying eyeball pressure
-certain medications
-carotid sinus massage
if you see a patient with sinus brady, what is the next best nursing action
go check on the pt and see how they feel
if asym, do not treat
characteristics of sinus brady
-P/QRS/T are all WDL
-originates in SA node
-rhythm is regular
- rate is <60
S/s of sinus brady
look at key features
how to treat sinus brady
only w/ symptoms
-IV atropine -> give 1mg every 3 to 5 mins w/ a max of 3mg
IF MED DOESN’T WORK
-transcutaneous pacing of the heart or permanent pacemaker
atropine facts
vagolytic -> given w/ the purpose of blocking the vagus nerve
will increase HR
transcutaneous pacing
put pads on pt and nurse can push a button to create an SA node to help pace the heart and bring it up to >60
if doesn’t work, permanent pace maker
characteristics of sinus tach
-P/QRS/T are all WDL
-originates in SA node
-rhythm is regular
- rate is >100
what causes sinus tachy (8)
-PA
-anxiety
-pain
-stress
-fever
-anemia
-hypoxia
-compensatory mech for decreased BP (dehy/hypovol, MI, HF)
S/s
look at key features
how to treat sinus tach
treat the cause
~fluid replacement
~analgesic
~anti pyretic
~anxiolytic
-beta blockers to reduce HR & myocardial oxygen consumption
