Ladders 6 TL Flashcards
TL are NOT designed to operate w/outriggers & jacks down on one side only. Exception
If rig NOT level, lower the jacks & outrigger on low side 1st, then jacks & outriggers on high side until level as possible
Who shall verify the placement of all outriggers & jacks prior to raising boom from bedded position
Any member operating the TL
If a FF commences to set up a TL rig for an operation & then decides to abort the operation, he must _
Properly place all outriggers & jacks for operation OR return all outriggers & jacks to pre-set up position
Operating TL controls at the _ allow for smoother positioning of basket
Pedestal
T/F Use of platform control switch is necessary whenever members/civilians enter or leave elevated basket
True- Ensures against movement of basket by accidentally touching platform control handle
TL water system hook up consists of 3”X3” gated Siamese on _ side & 4 1/2” inlet on _ side
What is the most effective means of communications between Basket & Pedestal
Left; Right
Intercom (Open circuit)
When using Intercom in TL- who shall be the reference point
TL intercom shall be checked
Pedestal (Basket = Bop: Do NOT use)
Daily & at initial stages of placing TL into operation
Communication preference order between Basket & Pedestal “IRS”
Can Detailed FF operate Basket
Intercom, Radio (HT), Signals (Hand)
Only if presently assigned to TL unit or Qualified Chauffeur Tillerman
A FF is operating in the basket w/a Personal harness secured to a substantial part of basket, but finds this too confining. What can be done to provide working room
Form a loop, once foot in diameter in LSR around substantial part of basket using a bowline to secure the loop, then hook Personal Harness onto this loop.
What is the Scrub Area
How can the boom be operated to the full extent of its scrub area
Area of bldg wall which can be touched by basket
Park TL w/front end angled about 15 degrees from bldg line. This puts cab portion of rig farther away than rear portion
Positioning TL perpendicular to bldg will considerably reduce scrub area & should be avoided whenever possible. What is an exception:
Ground of doubtful stability such as Vacant lots or unpaved areas & plank pads for outrigger deemed NOT substantial enough
Who surveys vacant lots for stability of TL
If a FF leaves basket for search/roof ops, can the Pedestal FF move the basket
Officer & LCC
Only if he advises FF’s of his intentions AND they in turn give approval OR visible life hazard should occur
Properly positioned TL provides wall coverage from grade level or below up to a max basket floor elevation of approx _’ at max 75 degree angle
70’
The basket while touching a point 32’ horizontally from center of TT can reach a basket floor elevation of _’
65’
TL scrub area covers front of bldg _’ high & _’ wide, and will cover a 100’ frontage of lower _ floors of a bldg
60’ H; 50’ W; 3 floors
TL has a scrub area of approx _ sq ft when center of TT is 32’ from bldg wall & cab is at _ degree angle from bldg line
7750 sq ft; 15 degree angle
Basket can reach points _’ below grade
10’
When center line of TT is _’ from bldg there will be sufficient room for basket to be dropped below horizontal w/boom perpendicular to side of rig
25’
Ideal horizontal distance from objective is _’ from center line of TT to bldg for allowance for sidewalks, outriggers, & parked vehicles
32’
While 75’ is the nominal height, the actual working height (bottom of basket at its highest elevation) is little more than _’ when boom is at max angle of 75 degrees
70’
How is TL positioned on Hills:
Rig parallel to direction of slope so boom ops in “Up-hill” direction. If possible rig should face “down-hill”. If facing downhill TT past objective. If facing uphill, TT before objective
Grades up to _% slope may be treated as level ground.
Max slope for TL ops set at _% grade.
A difference of slightly over _’ from front to rear of rig is approx 15% slope
4%
15%
5 1/2’
