Wind, Fire in apt, Failed/Open window in fire room, Fire apt door leading to public hall left open/not fully closed, & Area of low pressure opposite side of public hallway from fire apt
Define Flow Path
Is direction & speed of wind at street level a reliable indicator of wind conditions above street level
Movement of fire, heat, & smoke from high pressure (fire area) to low pressure (all areas other than fire area)
No- wind in NOT consistent or predictable
Prior to advancing to reported fire floors, members must gather info by _
If a KO curtain is deployed from a window in the fire apt above the fire, does the deployment window have to be closed
Surveying floor below or 2 floors below if scissor stairs
Deployment window MUST be closed after deployment to prevent potential for auto-exposure to floors above
Flanking strategy is application of water from inside fire building to control main body of fire via non-frontal attack. A small opening is made in the adjoining wall to fire room _
As close to exterior wall as possible. Initially hole should only be large enough for main stream tip of noz to be placed in opening
What is the difference in Flanking Attack when the fire apartment door has been left open vs fire apt door closed
Fire Apt door Open- Once access obtained to adjoining apt the door must remain closed & HL stretched from below via exterior window/balcony w/utility rope;
Fire Apt door closed- once access to adjoining apt obtained HL stretched via fire floor public hallway into adj apt
Which FFs may be used to force entry into apt below fire apt in order to secure ropes of WCD & provide access for HRN Eng company
FFs from 3rd Lad, Rescue, & Squad
What shall 1st Lad Off ensure if wind impacted fire exists & fire apt door left open
Ensure members exit public hallway immediately & notify IC & Eng Off of conditions
Wind Impacted Fire & Apt door open- where is 1st HL stretched-
Stretch & charge in Attack Stairwell w/door remaining closed until Alt strategies implemented & IC receives confirmation of KO, Window Blanket, &/or HRN, Exterior stream, Flank attack
Alternate strategies: In most cases _ would normally be the 1st fire tactic used due to its availability & time it takes
KO Curtain
Once confirmation is received that alternate strategies are implemented & approval is given by IC, Ops Sections Chief, or Fire Sector Supervisor- who shall enter public hallway
Only Ladder Officer & 1 FE FF to locate & gain control of fire apt door. Other FE FF remains at Attack Stairwell Door
Which side of Attack Stairwell Door shall the remaining FE team FF position himself while Lad Off & other inside FF gain control of fire apt door
Hallway side of door to ensure it remains closed & FF can act as a beacon if members need to evacuate hallway
Where shall Engine Off remain while Lad Off attempts to gain control of fire apt door
What shall be done once Lad Off gains control of fire apt door
Responsible for control & coordination on stairwell side of door
Eng shall advance charged HL to fire apt door. FE team FF at stairwell door shall also advance to fire apt door
Lad Off gained control of Fire Apt door & Eng advanced HL to fire apt door- who enters first?
When shall fire apt door be chocked open
Eng MUST enter 1st followed by Lad. Contact Roof FF in apt above to get a layout of apartment
Once HL advanced toward interior fire area
What shall be done if fire apt door found closed on arrival, but window failure has occurred & reports indicate wind is impacting fire
Door to fire apt remains closed & alt strategies implemented. IC/Fire Sector Supervisor makes decision when to enter fire apt (Eng 1st)
Fire apt door closed & no window failure, but wind conditions exist- what shall Ladder Off do
Prior to opening door of fire apt, get a report of exterior conditions & report from Roof FF on fl above. Off & 1 FE team FF enter to search w/other FE team FF at apt door on interior side w/door closed (keep closed until Lad Off requests HL)
