Communications Ch 13 & 14 Flashcards
What are the simplex HT channels
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 16
Transmits & receives point-point on same frequency
Comm 13
Duplex Channels
11, 12, 14, 15
Transmits on 1 frequency but receives a signal back on a different frequency- needs duplex UHF repeater system
Comm 13
What is Channel 9 on HT
Digital channel for future use
Comm 13
In order to enhance FD communications- auxiliary radio communication systems (ARCS) are being installed. Can they be programmed to our HT frequencies
Yes- they can be programmed on our frequency or have their own “Proprietary” frequency requiring in-house radios for members
Comm 13
If a building is equipped w/ARCS who shall activate it
1st Ladder Officer will activate ARCS w/1620 key or ON/OFF switch at Fire Command Station
Comm 13
Who monitors the tactical &/or Repeater channel/Relay messages at ICP
1st Ladder Officer will designate a member to staff
Comm 13
If using a UHF radio repeater channel- when is a functional test performed
Prior to leaving the lobby by first Lad Off
Comm 13
If the IC decides to use the repeater system as a Command Channel for a subway/tunnel emergency- what channel shall be designated members switch to
Channel 14 Primary Subway Repeater channel (15 secondary)
Comm 13
Which members shall switch over to the repeater channels on their HT
Only those directed by IC. All others shall stay on
Comm 13
If repeater system set up at subway- does an HT relay still need to be in place
Must have relay with member on Channel 1
Comm 13
Why is it important to FAST truck to be aware of additional communication channels being used
FAST unit needs to obtain an additional HT for each channel in use & have 1 additional member monitor each new channel
Comm 13
What happens if members encounter a dead spot using ARCS
Unit shall return to a location where previous communications were successful. If successful report dead spot to IC & continue w/ARCS. If unsuccessful use HT on Ch 1 to report repeater failure to IC
Comm 13
Can duplex Radio Repeater Systems support multiple transmissions
No multiple transmissions at same time may cancel out all transmissions
Comm 13
What channel is the Building Duplex UHF radio repeater channel
Channel 11 or 12
Comm 13
If Post to Post Radio Communications is viable- should ARCS still be established
Yes- can be used as a backup
Comm 13
Correct action for using ARCS
A. 1st arriving Eng Off will activate Bldg ARCS located at the Fire Command Station
B. FDNY 1620 key is req’d to activate ARCS
C. Only time to perform a functional test of ARCS is after Units are in place & ops are underway
D. Dispatcher must be notified fore relay to all incoming units if either in-house radios or FD HT Ch 11 or 12 are being utilized
D
Comm 13
EMS/Fire Interoperability Frequency Correct
A. Should be used on CFR responses & may also be used on fire responses or other non-fire emergency responses
B. Upon arrival at CFR run, Off must designate BU FF to switch to Ch 10
C. Members shall use plain language or 10-37 codes when communicating on this frequency
D. All EMS Off, LTs, & above, monitor HT Ch 1 at fireground operations
D
Comm 14
(ARCS) Incorrect
A: Activate the ARCS using a 1620 key, or the On/Off switch at the Fire Command Station
B: Instruct one member to staff the Incident Command Post and monitor the tactical and repeater channels
C: Have one member of his inside team switch to channel 11 or 12, the repeater system channel. The officer and all other members shall remain on Channel 1
D: Notify the dispatcher for re-transmittal to all incoming units that channel 11 or 12 is being used
C. The officer shall switch to the duplex radio repeater channel (channel 11 or 12). The officer must also ensure a functional test is performed prior to leaving the Incident Command Post.
