ERP add 1 Biological Flashcards
2 Bio agents that act like chemicals due to immediate effects
Ricin (from castor beans) & Mycotoxin
“BRIM” Bio Ricin Immediate Mycotoxin
What devices do FD Units have to detect presence of bio agents in real time
There are NO devices to detect Bio instantaneously. Cannot be confirmed without appropriate lab tests
Are signs & symptoms fairly consistent between victims for Bio Agents
Patients may exhibit differing signs & symptoms (one person may have cough/other severe respiratory distress)
_ incident- the agent cannot be transmitted from one person to other people via direct contact with the contaminant
Non-contagious incident
_ incident in which a bio agent can spread person-person via direct contact or aerosol release
Contagious incident
Outward warning signs of bio release may be presence of _
Suspicious spray devices- abandoned or “out of place”
An unusual number of sick/dying people &/or animals may indicate
Bio release
Suspicious incident involving explosives where damage is minimal may be dispersion tool for _
Bio agent
Characteristics of Liquid Bio Agent
Opaque, but can vary in color. Viscosity typically thicker than water, but NOT as thick as syrup (Liquid Bio agents are easier to produce, but more difficult to disseminate because they are less stable than dried Bio Agents)
Characteristics of Dried Bio Agents
Colors vary- ex Weaponized anthrax gray or brown in color
Overt Bio Release- Initial Exclusion Zone at least
At least 300’ in all directions from source or points of release
Bio release indoors- evacuate immediate area & seal off area by closing doors & windows & using plastic to cover openings. Avoid entry for a minimum of
30 minutes to 1 hour to allow biological to settle to reduce exposure of inhalation hazard
What is a top priority before establishing a Command Post/Staging Area
Protection from Secondary device (NYPD shall search selected locations)
Bio agents released at _ will have greater impact
Dawn, Dusk, or During night
_ (High/Low) humidity will facilitate dispersal of a liquid agent; whereas (high/low) humidity is more conducive to dispersal of dried bio agent
High; Low
With Bio Agents, _ should be the last item removed from victim/responder during decon process
Respiratory Protective Devices
What should 1st responders do for “At Risk Call” types
Enter scene with Respiratory protection & other PPE, Reverse isolate patients (masks, sheet, etc)
3 Levels of Covert Bio Incident (Public Health Emergency)
Bio Response Level I: Preparedness (literature).
Level II: Transmission of Contagious Bio outside NYC (minimize pt contact)
Level III: Contagious Bio in NYC- Use PPE before pt contact & reverse isolate pt. If exposed process MD-X3
Which color tag is not in accordance with FDNY policy? A: Black tag - Deceased B: Red tag - Deadly C: Yellow tag - Delayed D: Green tag - Minor
