Action: Medial pharyngeal constrictor
Very small, in front of os hyoideum
M. palatopharyngeus
Origin: Edge of palatine and pterygoid bones (the apparatus of the soft palate?
Insertion: Pharyngeal raphe
Action: Medial pharyngeal constrictor
M. hyopharyngeus

- M. sternothyroideus
- M. thyrohyoideus
M. sternohyoideus
Origin:
- Sternum
- 1st costal cartilage
- Fused to deeper m. sternothyroideus at the first part
Insertion: Os basohyoideus
Action: Pulls the hyoid bone, radix linguae and larynx caudally
M. sternothyroideus
Origin: 1st costal cartilage / manubrium
Insertion: Thyroid lamina (thyroid cartilage)
Action: Draw larynx and tongue caudally
M. thyrohyoideus
Origin: Thyroid cartilage
Insertion: Thyroid bone
Where the two muscles meet dorsally. Lies dorsal to m. sternohyoideus
Location of gl. thyroidea
- Lateral to first 5 tracheal rings (on trachea), usually with 2 lobes
- Dark color
