Q

M. scalenius dorsalis

A

Origin: From c4-6 on transverse process.

Insertion:

  • Has two muscular parts, inserting on the cranial border of ribs:
    • Dorsally situated:
      • Rib 1-4.
    • Ventrally situated:
      • Rib 1-8/9.

Action:

  • Helps inspiration.
  • Bilateral contraction: flexes neck ventrally.
  • Unilateral contraction: flexes neck laterally.
