Which muscles are m. Quadriceps femoris composed of?
- M. rectus femoris
- M. vastus lateralis
- M. vastus intermedius
- M. vastus medialis
M. rectus femoris
Origin: From corpus of os ilium (area m. Recti femoris medialis et lateralis).
Insertion:
- Tuberositas tibia
- Crista tibia
- Patella:
- Patellar ligament on tibial tuberosity
Action:
- Flexor of hip
- Extends the stifle
Innervation:
- N. Femoralis
- N. ischiadicus
Blood supply:
- A. circumflexa femoris lateralis
- A. circumflexa ilium superficialis
M. vastus lateralis
Origin: Proximal part of labium laterale on femur (craniolateral)
Insertion:
- Tuberositas tibia
- Crista tibia
- Patella:
- Patellar ligament on tibial tuberosity
Action: Extensor stifle
Innervation:
- N. Femoralis
- N. ischiadicus
Blood supply:
- A. circumflexa femoris lateralis
- A. circumflexa ilium profunda
M. vastus intermedius
Origin: Proximal part of labium laterale on femur (cranial surface)
Insertion:
- Tuberositas tibia
- Crista tibia
- Patella:
- Patellar ligament on tibial tuberosity
Action: Extends the stifle
Innervation:
- N. Femoralis
- N. ischiadicus
Blood supply:
- A. circumflexa femoris lateralis
- A. circumflexa ilium profunda
M. vastus medialis
Origin: Medial side of the proximal end of the cranial surface of femur (craniomedial)
Insertion:
- Tuberositas tibia
- Crista tibia
- Patella:
- Patellar ligament on tibial tuberosity
Action: Flexes stifle
Innervation:
- N. Femoralis
- N. ischiadicus
Blood supply:
- A. circumflexa femoris lateralis
- A. circumflexa ilium profunda
M. popliteus
Origin: The popliteal fossa on the lateral condyle of the femur
Insertion: The proximal third of the caudomedial border of the tibia
Action: To rotate the leg medially and flex the stifle, in ca also to pronate the crus
Innervation: N. tibialis
Blood supply: A. poplitea
