Practical topic 16 Flashcards
Carpal and digital flexors of the forelimb, their nerves, blood supply of the forearm
Give the carpal flexors of the forelimb
- Flexor carpi radialis
- Flexor carpi ulnaris
- Caput humerale
- Caput ulnare
- Flexor digitorum superficialis
- Flexor digitorum profundus
- Caput humerale
- Caput radiale
- Caput ulnare
Give the digital flexors of the forelimb
- Flexor digitorum superficialis
- Flexor digitorum profundus
- Caput humerale
- Caput radiale
- Caput ulare
M. flexor carpi radialis
Origin: Epicondylus medialis of humerus, behind collateral ligament.
Insertion: Mc 2-3, palmar surface of metacarpal base.
Action: Flexes carpal joint
Innervation: N. Medianus
Blood supply: A. Profunda antebrachii
M. Flexor digitorum profundus
Origin:
- Caput humerale:
- Epicondylus meialis of humerus.
- Caput radiale:
- Proximo-medially from radius.
- Caput ulnare:
- Proximo-caudally from ulna.
Insertion: Distal phalanx of digits 1-5 on palmar surface. On the last phalanxes´ flexor tubercle.
Action: Flexes carpus and joints of digits 1-5
Innervation:
- Caput humerale
- N. Ulnaris et medianus
- Caput ulnare et radiale:
- N. ulnaris
Blood supply: A. ulnaris
M. Flexor digitorum superficialis
Origin: Epicondylus medialis of humerus
Insertion: Middle phalanx of digits 2-5 on palmar surface
Action: Flexes carpus and affected joints of digits 2-5.
Innervation: N. Ulnaris et medianus
Blood supply: Profunda antebrachii
M. supinator
Origin: Lateral epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: Cranial surface of the proximal fourth of the radius (directly on the bone)
Action: To supinate the forearm and forefoot (To rotate the forearm laterally)
M. pronator teres
Origin: The medial epicondyle of the humerus
Insertion: The craniamedialsurface of the proximal radius
Action: To pronate the forearm (rotate the forearm medially so that the palmar side of the paw faces the ground)
M. pronator quadratus
When seen from medially, it covers the spatium interossum antebrachii
Elongated rectangular shape, fibers running transverse between radius and ulna
Covered partly by the common digital extensor
Attachments: The apposed surfaces of radius and ulna
Action: To pronate the paw
N. mediana
- Supplies
- Where does it run?
- Supplies most of the flexor muscles of the carpus and digit:
- M. pronator teres
- M. pronator quadratus
- M. flexor carpi radialis
- M. flexor digitorum superficialis
- M. flexor digitorum profundus:
- Caput radialis
- Caput humerale
- Caput ulnare
- Run distal with brachial flexor
N. ulnaris
- Supplies
- Localization
- Branches
- Flexor muscles form digit IV and V
- Lies on the caudal surface of m. flexor digitorum profundus, deep to the humeral head of m. flexor carpi ulnaris
- Dorsal and palmar branch
A. interossea communis
- Which vessel is it a branch of?
- Where does it arise?
- What does it divide into?
- The biggest branch of the a. brachialis
- Arises distal to the elbow and proceeds to spatium interosseum antebrachii
- Divides into:
- A. interossea cranialis
- A. interossea caudalis
- A. ulnaris (Car)
Give the branches of a. mediana
- A. profunda antebrachii
- A. radialis
- M. flexor digitorum profundus
- M. flexor digitorum profundus, caput radialis
