C13 - Cranial nerves VII., IX. Flashcards
1
Q
VII
Name the cranial nerve VII
A
N. facialis
IX: N. glossopharyngeus
2
Q
VII
Where does the nerve arise?
Where does the nerve travel?
A
- Two separate nuclei in the medulla oblongata:
- Motor nucleus located rostral
- Parasympathetic nucleus located caudal to the motor nucleus
- Nuclei:
- Nucl. n. facialis → somatomotor
- Nucl. salviatorius rostralis → secretomotor
- Nucl. tractus spinalis n. trigemini → somatosensory
- Nucl. tractus solitarii → special sensory
- These two nuclei unite to form the roots of the n. facialis and joined by sensory fibers from ggl. geniculate
- Travels in the canalis facialis
3
Q
VII
Give the branches of the nerve in canalis facialis
A
4
Q
VII
Which foramen does the nerve travel through?
A
For. stylomastoideum
Only composed of motorfibers after
5
Q
VII
Draw n. facialis
A
6
Q

Q
IX
Name the cranial nerve IX
A
N. glossopharyngeus

Q
IX
What type of nerve?
Give the origin
A
- A mixed nerve, sensory and motor
-
Motor fibers:
- Originate in the rostral part of nucl. ambiguus of the medulla oblongata
-
Parasympathetic fibers:
- Arise from the nucl. parasympatheticus of n. glossopharyngeus
- Nuclei:
- Nucl. ambiguus
- Nucl. tractus spinalis
- Nucl. dorsalis n. vagi
- Nucl. alare cinare laterale
- Nucl. salivatorius caudalis
- Nucl. tractus solitarii

Q
IX
Where does the nerve leave the skull?
A
For. jugulare
- Eq: for. lacerum aborale
- Passes through gutteral pouch
10
Q
IX
Give the branches, innervation and draw the nerve
A
- It is a part of the vagus group, together with:
- N. vagus (X)
- N. accessorius (XI)
-
Sensory to:
- Middle ear
- Caudal 1/3 of tongue
- Pharynx (with n. vagus)
-
Motor to:
- Dilator of pharynx (m. stylopharyngeus caudalis)
