A

Origin: Processus paracondylaris (os occipitalis)

Insertion: Ventral-ventromedial border of mandible

Action: Opens the jaw

Innervation:

  • N. facialis - caudal belly
  • N. trigeminus - rostral belly

    • On the lateral side of the head, just caudal to the angle of the mandible.

  1. Mixed secretion
  2. Localization:
    • Monostomatic part:
      • Rostral to gl. mandibularis, shares capsule with it
    • Polystomatic part:
      • Situated along the mandibular and sublingual ducts
      • Opens with separate ducts directly into the oral cavity in the sublingual recess

  • Run together deep to m. digastricus
  • Crosses over n. lingualis
  • Opens at the frenulum of the tongue, at caruncula sublingualis

  • Consists of 2-3 lymph nodes of both sides of v. facialis
