What are the main features of SLE? (3)
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): No pustules, looks like a butterfly rash over cheek area. = REFER!
What are the main features of Rosacea? (4)
Flushing, erythema, telangiectases, inflamed papules and pustules affecting cheeks, nose, centre of forehead, chin.
Relapsing/remitting
Differential diagnosis: Seborrhoeic eczema, SLE, photosensitivity
What is the difference between acne and rosacea? (4)
Acne:
- Clinical Features: Seborrhoea, comedones, pustules, nodules, cysts, inflammation
- Distribution: face, neck, back, upper chest, asymmetrical
- Age of Onset: Adolescence
- Effects of Sunlight: Sometimes helpful
Rosacea:
- Clinical Features: Pustules, Nodules, Inflammation, Flushing
- Distribution: Face, symmetrical
- Age of Onset: 30s and 40s
- Effects of Sunlight: Exacerbates
Outline the management of rosacea.
Topical or oral ABx e.g. metronidazole REFER!
