What is the indication of Otrivine? (1)
Dual relief Nasal Spray (P): 0.5mg xylometazoline HCl + 0.6mg/ml ipratropium bromide.
- Symptomatic relief of nasal congestion and rhinorrhoea in common colds.
What is the license age for Otrivine? (1)
18+
What is the dose of Otrivine? (1)
1 spray in each nostril up to max TDS (at least 6 hrs between each dose)
What is the max treatment duration of Otrivine? (1)
7 days - high risk of rebound congestion (stop sooner if improvement)
What are the common s/e of Otrivine? (5)
Visual disturbances
Dizziness
Fatigue
Epistaxis (nose bleeds)
Nasal dryness
What are the contraindications for Otrivine? (3)
Hypersensitive to ingredients
After nasal surgery
Glaucoma
Which patients should you avoid giving Otrivine? (2)
Pregnancy
Breastfeeding
What are the cautions for using Otrivine? (11)
Hypertension
Px with long QT syndrome (increased risk of serious ventricular arrhythmias)
Hyperthyroidism
Diabetes
Prostate Hypertrophy
Bladder Stenosis
Cystic Fibrosis
MAOI tx or received them in last 2 weeks.
Tri- or teracyclic antidepressants or received them in last 2 weeks.
B2-agonists
Angle closure glaucoma.
