Explain the process of extemporaneous preparation of methadone liquid. (5)

Pharmacies use methadone powder.
Extemporaneous preparation = unlicensed.
A licensed preparation should also be used first before unlicensed.
Methadone powder ordered from a wholesaler will need to be entered into the CD register when it’s delivered and then the weight used to prepare the methadone liquid is entered.
Methadone liquid prepared in this way will need to be entered into the CD register for methadone liquid after it has been prepared.
Px and prescriber should be informed that the product is unlicensed.
