What general medication advice is given regarding travelling with medicines?
OTC/ prescribed medicines can be restricted/banned in other countries.
Check rules for entering a country with medicines with the embassy of the country px are waiting.
General medication advice:
- Sufficient supply
- Original packaging with label and information leaflet.
- Copy of Rx, letter from HCP required for needles and syringes.
- Carry in hand luggage.
- If > 100ml contact airline and will need documents.
What do you need to consider when px has diabetes and is planning to travel?
Pre-travel check up.
Medical letter required.
Insulin - additional supply in hand luggage.
- Quicker absorption in hot weather.
- If flight time < 4 hrs inject at usual (UK time)
Spare glucose meter
Sick day rules
Additional food supplies
Tx for hypoglycaemia
Cool bag
Protect feet
