Commony Rx Drugs - NSAIDs Flashcards
What general Rx points for NSAIDs? (3)
Consider individual risk factors, hx of CV/GI illness prior to Rx NSAIDs.
Naproxen (1000mg daily or less) and low dose Ibuprofen (1200mg daily or less) = favourable thrombotic CV safety profiles.
The lowest effective dose is used for shortest duration necessary to control symptoms.
Person’s need for symptomatic relief and response to tx should be re-evaluated periodically.
What is the general relationship between NSAIDs and renal function? (1)
NSAIDs can precipitate renal failure and people at risk of renal impairment or retail failure (particularly older people) should avoid NSAIDs if possible.
What does MHRA advise regarding the use of NSAIDs in renal disease? (1)
Consider other concomitant disease states, conditions or medicines that may precipitate reduced renal function when Rx NSAIDs.
What type of combination therapy can increase the risk of AKI? (1)
ACEi + ARB + Diuretics
