What are the s/e of Aripiprazole? (4)
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS)
Elderly px with dementia-related psychosis (Cerebrovascular ADR, X for dementia-related psychosis)
Hyperglycaemia/Diabetes
Weight gain
When would you consider reducing the dose of Aripiprazole? (1)
When used in adjunct to potent CYP3A4/CYP2D6i
reduce dose to 1/4 of normal dose?
What are the drug interactions with Aripiprazole? (3)
Potent CYP3A4i or CYP2D6i.
CYP3A4 inducers
What are the monitoring requirements of Aripiprazole? (2)
Blood concentration when signs of toxicity or given with medications that can increase its plasma levels.
What special warning label of Aripiprazole is present? (1)
Check that the correct preparation is used:
- Acute (solution for injection containing aripiprazole 7.5mgml) NOT be confused with:
- Depot prep (Aripiprazole 400mg vial with solvent). Used in community/clinics for maintenance tx.
