What is Enalapril? (1)
ACEi
Give e.g. of ACEI. (6)
Captopril
Fosinopril
Imidapril
Lisinopril
Perindopril
Ramipril
What are the indications of Enalapril? (4)
HPT
HF
Post MI
Diabetic Nephropathy
What is the prognosis of using ACEi in HF + post MI? (2)
Improved mortality in HF
Improved outcomes in px post MI.
What is a potential risk with taking Enalapril? (2)
Risk of hyperkalaemia not used with K supplements or K sparing diuretics.
First dose hypotension, particularly those already on diuretics.
What are the renal s/e of Enalapril? (5)
In severe bilateral RAS, ACEi reduces or abolished glomerular filtration and likely to cause renal failure.
Avoided in px with known or suspected renovascular disease.
Suspected in px with PVD or with severe generalised artherosclerosis.
Renal function (U+Es) checked prior to treatment and monitored during tx within 7-10 days of any dose change.
Concomittant tx with NSAIDs increases risk of renal damage.
What are the common s/e of Enalapril? (5)
First dose hypotension (particularly with concomitant diuretics)
Renal impairment
Persistent dry cough
Angioedema may be delayed onset
Hyperkalaemia
