What are the main features of measles? (6)

A

Spread droplet inhalation or direct person to person contact.
Incubation period: 7-14 days.
Prodromal period: 3-4 days. Child will demonstrate severe flu like condition and possible conjunctivitis.
Main infectious period in during the prodromal period and for first 2 days of rash.
Koplik’s spots: White spots development on inner cheeks and gums.
Rash then develops behind ears and hairline moving down the trunk.

How is Measles treated? (1)

A

Simple analgesia for symptom relief.

What is German Measles/Rubella? (4)

A

Incubation 14-21 days.
Prodromal phase 5 days.
Not as contagious, often asymptomatic besides cold-like syndrome with lymphadenopathy.
Not spread from head downwards.
Dangerous in early pregnancy.
