types of HPV? differences?
type 1 - cold sores - 50% of population
type 2 - anogenital (genital can also be T1)
Cold sores - transmission? commonly affects what? initial what? followed by?
direct/droplet infection
vermillion border of lips
initial pain/tingling, followed by vesicular eruption
cold sores - common ass feature? % who suffer recurrent attacks? what are these precipitated by? mgmt?
lymphadenopathy
30-50% suffer recurrent attacks - by trauma, ERTI, UV, surgery
topical aciclovir
genital herpes - prodrome? then? burst to form?
flu like prodrome
then grouped vesicles/papules around genitals/anus, burst to form shallow ulcers
genital herpes - % recurrent? mgmt?
95% are recurrent
mgmt - oral aciclovir
what is herpetic whitlow
abrasions/inoculations may cause acute localised infection with vesiculation and blistering
all HSV complications - 7
gingivomastitis, keratoconjunctivitis, bells palsy, eczema herpeticum, erythema mulitforme, HSV meningitis/encephalitis, disseminated infection (in imm suppressed)
gingivomastitis - 3 Sx
pain
fever
vesicles and ulcers in mouth filled with yellow slough
keratoconjunctivitis
ulcer on superficial cornea, risk of permanent scarring
bells palsy
facial nerve paralysis due to nerve infection
eczema herpeticum
infection of eczematous skin, punched out erosions, requires systemic aciclovir
