Pina haematoma - where is bleed? due to?
subperichondrial bleeding
due to blunt trauma
Pinna haematoma - mgmt
drainage required - prevents complications
may need packing to prevent reaccumulation
Perichondritis - what is it? secondary to?? risk of?
infection of perichondrium
may occur secondary to trauma, insect bites
risk of abcess formation
Cauliflower ear - cause? what does this lead to?
trauma leading to haematoma, stripping vascularising perichondrium from cartilage
leads to ischaemia, necrosis, atrophy, permanent deformity
Chondrodermatitis nodularis helicis - what is it? possible causes?
very painful lesion on upper pinna, may be caused by pressure, vasoconstriction
Chondrodermatitis nodularis helicis - 2 features + recurrence rate
may become scaly
benign but may be confused for SCC
10-30% recurrence after surgery
Chondrodermatitis nodularis helicis - treat?
with steroids, cryotherapy, surgery
