endometriosis - what infection may be evident? how is the uterus affected?
what is pyometra? what is occasionally required?
pelvic/systemic infection
uterus becomes tender
pus accom and unable to escape
ABx and occasionally evacuation of retained products of conception (ERPC)
Intrauterine polyps - how large? origin? common in who? and when? which pts specifically?
small usually benign
mostly endometrial origin, possible submucous fibroids
common in 40-50y and when oestrogen levels high
postmenopause -> often found in tamoxifen pts (BrCa)
intrauterine polyps - occasionally contain what? occasionally what can happen? Sx?
endometrial hyperplasia or Ca
prolapse through cervix
often aSx - often HMB, IMB
intrauterine polyps - diagnosis? trt?
at uss/hysteroscopy due to abnormal bleeding
resection w cutting diathermy or avulsion usually cures
Haematometra - what is it? how common? cervical canal usually obstructed how??? what else may cause this and how/when do they present?
menstrual bl accum in uterus due to outflow obst
by fibrosis after endometrial resection, cone biopsy, or Ca
congen abnormality - eg imperforate hymen, present in adolescence as 1’ amenorrhea
congenital uterine malformations - common but seldom ? ?
25% cause what? how normally discovered?
clinically significant
25% cause preg-related problems - how it is discovered
congenital uterine malformations - what effect on preg can these have?
malpresentations, transverse lie, preterm labour, recurrent miscarriage, retained placenta
