1 - Opth - Introduction and Anatomy - Eyelids and Conjunctiva Flashcards
Muscles that control eyelid opening and closing and their innervation?
opening - levator palpebrae superioris - oculomotor nerve
closing - orbicularis oculi muscles - facial nerve
Three parts of conjunctiva ?
palpebral (tarsal) - lines eyelids
ocular - covers eyeball over the anterior sclera
fornix - forms junction between bulbar and palpebral conjunctivas
Conjunctiva - from where to where? contain what?
margins of eyelids to limbus
meibomian glands - modified sebaceous glands at rim of eyelids
Normal eyelid position?
lower lid should touch cornea at 6 oclock
upper lid crosses cornea by 2-3mm
Causes of eyelid retraction
causes of eyelid protrusion
retraction - usually graves opthalmopathy
protrusion - exopthalmos - graves, orbital cellulitis, malignancy, trauma
