scabies and lice
lice - 3 places?
head, body, pubic
lice - diff between places?
all give pruritis
head - head and scalp papules - live lice indicate active infection
body - due to lice saliva antigens
pubic - may also get to eyebrows,eye lashes
mgmt of lice
malathion/permethrin topically - washing powder, shampoo
scabies - cause? spread by? most common in?
scabies louse
close contact
kids and young adults
scabies features
burrows (esp in finger webs, palms, soles, genitals)
itchy red papules (axillae, groin, abdo)
mgmt of scabies
topical insecticides - malathion/permethrin - neck down , wash off after 10 h, treat all close contacts, repeat 1 wk later
crusted scabies- what is this? why ? mgmt?
large numbers of mites due to increased scratching - due to eg : disability, immsupp
topical scabicide and ivermethacin
