Brain abscess - what is it? how many in kids have ENT cause?
accumulation of pus surrounded by encephalitis
1/3rd in kids have an ENT cause
Brain abscess - commonly where? enter via?
commonly ipsilateral temporal lobe or cerebellum
enters via venous route - causing thrombophlebitis
Extradural abscess -what is it? Sx? may cause?
infection of extradural space - pus, granulation tissue, effusion
commonly aSx
may cause sigmoid thrombophlebitis/thrombosis
Sigmoid sinus thrombophlebitis - what is it? further consequence?
inflamm - leading to thrombus formation
may propagate - to reach IJV -> painful swelling in neck
Sigmoid sinus thrombophlebitis - ass w/presenting signs?
malaise, headache, fever, rigors, increased ICP
Subdural abscess - what is ti? ENT association?
circumscribed collection of pus in subdural space
less commonly ass w ENT disease
Meningitis - what can cause this? in who?
most commonly realted to ENT in children - acute OM / cholesteatoma
