in cerebellopontine angle , vestibular nuclei, brainstem, cerebellum, or above
why is dysequilibrium common in >60y
accumulative small vessel ischaemia, termed presbystasis
what are the common clinical features in central vertigo
vertigo, ataxia
vertical or horizontal nystagmus towards lesion
what are lesson common features
hearing loss, tinnitus, N+V less common
what types of things can cause central vertigo
SOL vascular degenerative eg MS trauma intoxication - alcohol, barbs
what vascular things may cause this
eg vestibulo basialr migraine, CVA, presbystasis
what SOL’s may cause this
intratentorial, CPangle, acoustic neuroma
Basilar migraine - what is this? accompanied by?
essentially a TIA due to vasospasm
vertigo - accompanied by other neuro signs (not usually with N+V, hearing loss or tinnitus)
Presbystasis - what happens? what doesnt happen?
elderly, few seconds of unsteadiness
no loss of consciousness, N+V
