Not all MAHA is caused by a TMA, but nearly all TMAs cause MAHA

umbrella term for non-immune/coombs negative hemolysis (ie, Coombs-negative hemolysis) resulting from intravascular red blood cell fragmentation that produces schistocytes on the peripheral blood smear
