How does it work?
A
acts directly on the cough center in the medulla to elevate the cough threshold.

Adverse effects
A
Sedation and dizziness, headache, and GI upset (consitpation)

Contraindicaitons
A
Should be used cautiously with people who have liver probs

Drug interactions
A
MAOIs, trptans, or SSRIs should not be taken because they can cause serotonin syndrome (nausea, changes in BP, and confusion)
Alcohol, antihistamines, antidepressants, and opioids= additive CNS depression

Herbal/food interactions
A
Grapefruit can cause toxicity
