A

Haloperidol depresses the cerebral cortex, hypotalamus, and limbic system of the brain which control activity and aggression. It blocks dopamine D2 receptors.

Do not give to people with Parkinson’s disease, seizure disorders, coma, alcoholism, severe mental depression, CNS depression, or lactation. Be cautious with people who have urinary retention, glaucoma, or severe cardiovascular disorders

What are the drug interactions?

A

Interactions with drugs that affect CYP enzymes. Increased CNS depression can occur if given with other CNS depressants, including alcohol, TCAs or opioids. Do not take with lithium (can cause brain damage)

A

increased action of haloperidol can occur if chamomile, hops, kava, nutmeg, skullcap, or valerian are used with it. Antagonist action can occur if it is used with scopolia or jimsonweed.
