Anti-infective, antiprotozoan

Nitroimidazole Drug
Therapeutic effects and uses
Used to treat amebiasis (infection with amoebas), giardiasis, trichomoniasis, Rosacea.
Mechanism of action
Binds to DNA RNA and intracellular proteins, Then it kills the cell by inhibiting DNA repair and creating problems with DNA synthesis
Adverse effects
Dizziness, headache, anorexia, abdominal pain, metallic taste, nausea
Contraindications
Don’t give it people to people with blood dyscrasias, or active CNS pathology
Drug Interactions
Don’t take with anticoagulants (warfarin)= can cause hypoprothrombineamia.
Disulfiram can induce acute psychosis
Herbal/food interactions
Should be taken on an empty stomach
