Can be used for short or long treatments.
Combined with antibiotics to gets rid of H. pylori
Mechanism of action
Reduces acid secretion in the stomach by binding irreversibly to the enzyme H+, K+ -ATPase.

Rapidly absorbed; food does not influence bioavialability

Bioavailability after oral dosing: 50-60%; crosses the placenta; secreted in breast milk; 95% bound to plasma protein

Adverse effects
headache, nausea, diarrhea, rash and abdominal pain
Contraindications/Precautions
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, children under the age of 2, lactating or pregnant women
Precautions: Hepatic impairment
Drug interactions:
Use with warfarin, carbamazepine, diazepam, and phenytoin can inhibit or delay metabolism.
herbal/food interactions
Gingko and St. John’s wort may decrease the plasma concentration of omeprazole
