Therapeutic effects and uses
Can be combined with magnesium to increase their effectiveness of neutralizing the stomach acid and treat PUD and GERD
Mechanism of action
Combines with gastric acid to produce aluminum chloride and water. This raises the pH of the stomach and inactivates pepsin.

Contraindications/precautions
patients who have low serum phosphate levels should not take it for long periods of time. Should not be used in patients with bowel obstruction
Drug interactions
Don’t take with cimetidine, ciprofloxacin and other fluoroquinolones, digoxin, isoniazid, chlorioquid, NSAIDs, iron salts, phenyoin, tetracycline, and thyroxine.
Anticholinergics can increase the effects
Herbal/food interactions
Inhibit the absorption of dietary iron
