Inhibitor of fungal cell membrane synthesis, triazole
Therapeutic effects and uses
Used to fight against Cindida albicans. Used to treat oropharyngeal candidiasis, esophageal candidasis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, and other systemic infections from this species.
Mechanism of Action
Acts by interfering with the synthesis of ergosterol
Adverse effects
Fever, chills, rash, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, be careful giving it to people with liver probs.
Drug interactions
Warfarin can cause bleeding. Oral hypoglycemics like glyburide can cause hypoglycemia. Rifampin increases metabolism so dose of Fluconazole should be increased if taken with it. Erythromycin increases cardiotoxicity and possibly heart death
