Therapeutic effects and uses
Used to against most gram-positive organisms. It is the most effective at treating MRSA infections. It is often a last resort antibiotic.
Mechanism of action
Kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Interferes with RNA synthesis.
Adverse Effects
hypotension, flushing, tachycardia, and rash on the upper body= redman syndrome.
Contraindications
Don’t give it to people who are allergic to it. Be careful with people who have kidney or hearing problems
Drug interactions
Adds to toxicity of aminoglycosides. Vancomycin may increase the risk of lactic acidosis when administered with metformin, especially patients with renal impairment.
