The Effects of Osmosis on Animal and Plant Cells": Flashcards
1
Q
What happens to animal cells during osmosis?
A
= when water moves in pressure inside of cells increases- hydrostatic pressure
= cell membrane is not strong enough to withstand a high hydrostatic pressure
= may burst
= when water leavres the cell the cell will shrink
2
Q
What happens to plant cells during osmosis?
A
= when water moves in the hydrostatic pressure increases
= but the cell wall is able to resists an outwards force to prevent the cell from bursting - turgid
= when water moves out of the cell the protoplast pulls away from the cell wall
= plasmolysosis
