classfication Flashcards
What is the bionomial system?
= first name is GENUS
= second part is species
= same genus shows close relationship
Why do different species look similar?
= live in a similar environment
= have a similar selection pressures
= similar alleles will have the selectibe advantage
= produces similar/same proteins and therefore similar characteristics
Why What is a heirarchy?
= smaler groups arranged in larger groups
= there is no overlaop
What us each group called?
=Taxa
Why do we need a system to organise species?
= understand relationships between organisms and keep track of changes
= the system needs to be universal
What are ways of classification?
= dna sequence
= rna sequence
= amino acid sequence
= immunbiological- comparing in self-antobody shape
What is the phylogenetic classificxation system?
= arranges species into groups according to their evolutionary origins and relationships
= tells us whos related to eho and how closely related they are
= all organisms have evolved shared common ancestors relatives this is a phyloggentic tree
How is this orderered?
= domain
= kingdom
= phylum
= class
= order
= family
= genus
= species
