Arteries and Arteriole Flashcards
What are arterioles?
= arteries branch to narrow blood veseels arterioles
= carry blood to the capillaries in each organ
What are arteries and how do they transpirt blood away from the heart?
= carry blood away from the heart to the organs
= high pressure
= when heart beats a surge of high pressure blood passes through ateries even between htese beats
What is the structure of the arteries?
smooth muscle: contracts and diameter of artery narrows- controls how much blood flows to different organs
= thick wall: witstand high pressure
= outer layer: made from collagen, structural role and strengthens artery wall in pressure
elastic fibesL elastic:
= elastuc fibres stretch as surges moves through and recoil when past, keeps blood moving smoohlt in between contracts of heart
lumen: where blood flows through, lined with endothiluem cells, smooth surface to reduce friction
What do arterioles do?
= deliver blood to capillaries
= contains same layers as arteries
blood pressure is LOWER and effect of pulse is weaker
= collagen rich layer and elastic layer is thin
= smooth muscle is thicker arterioles involve controlling amoint of blood passing through cappilaries- when cintracts blood flow is reduced , relaxes blood flow increases- vasodilation when organs require increased amoint og oxygen
= vasoconstrictio
