Q

What is the lock and key theory?

A

= teritary structure of the active site is fixed and does not change shape.
= substrate fits perfectly into active site

Q

What is the induced fit model?

A

= teritary structure of the enzyme changes as the substrate approaches
= as substrate starts to form bonds with the amino acids in the active site the teritary structure adjusts so the active site moulds itself tightly around the substrate

Q

What happens to molecules that are not the substrate?

A

= cannot form correct bonds with the amino acids in the active site
= teritary structure does not change
= shape of active site does not adjust
