HIV STRUCTURE + replication Flashcards
what is the membrane?
= lipid membranes
What do the attachement proteins do?
= bind to t-helper cells
What does reverse transcriptase do?
= enzyme converts HIV RNA into HIV DNA
What is the first step of HIV replication?
= HIV enters bloodstream
= binds to CD4 receptor on t-helper cells
=
What is the second step of HIV replication?
= capsid fuses with t-helper cells membrane and RNA + reverse transcriptase enters
= reverse transcriptase catalyses the conversion of HIV rna to HIV dna
What is the third step?
= HIV DNA enters the nucleus and is inserted into the host cells DNA
= mrna is created used to produce HIV molecules
= produces viral protein
= virus assembled and released from the cell
What is the last step?
= HIV molecule breaks away from the cell membrane with part of the cell membrane forming phospholipid envelope
