Q

Where is atp made?

A

= during respiration from ADP
= condensation reaction- addition of an inorganic phosphate head
= enzyme- ATP synthase

Q

How does ATP release energy?

A

= hydrolysed
= into ADP + PI
= by breaking one of the bonds between the inorganic phosphate group
= releases a small amount of energy to the surroundings used for chemical reactions
=USES ATP hydrolase

Q

What is phosphorylation?

A

=transfer energy when the bond of an inroganic phosphate is hydrolysed it is released
= if the inorhanic phosphate that is broken off is bonded to a different compound- that compound will gain the energy and becomes more reactive
= *first stage of respiration

Q

What is the first reason ATP is a managable source?

A

1: releases energy in small manageable amounts so no energy is wasted
= cells do not overheat from wasted energy
= less likley to run out of reasources

COMPARISON:
=glucose releases large amounts of energy that could result to wasted energy

Q

What is the second reason ATP is a managable source?

A

= small and soluable molecule
= easily transported around a cell
= common with glucose can move around cytoplasm

Q

What is the third reason ATP is a managable source?

A

= only one bond is broken/hydrolysed to release energy- immediate

COMPOUND:
= glucose would need several bonds- so takes much longer

Q

What is the fourth reason ATP is a managable source?

A

= phospholyration
=ATP can donate an inroganic phosphaye bonded to another molecule and make it more reavtibe
=cannot be done with glucpse

Q

What is the fith reason ATP is a managable source?

A

= ATP cannot pass out of the cell - the cell always has an immediate source of energy
= glucosde can
= no protein carriers atp can attach to
