enzymes: Non-Competitive Inhibitors: Flashcards
1
Q
What are Non-Competitive Inhibitors?
A
= does not bind to the active site
= binds to a different site on enzyme
= allosteric site
= causes the teritary structure of the enzyme to change so shape of active site changes and does not complement the substrate
= reduces rate of reaction
2
Q
What does this mean for the substrate molecule?
A
= Cannot bind to the active site
= to form an enzyme substrate complex
=
3
Q
Does Non-Competitive Inhibitors have a similar shape to the substrate?
A
= no
