Lysosomes: Flashcards
What are the 2 key features of lysosomes?
= contains powerful digestion enzymes
= internal fluid of lysoosmes oare acidic; as lysosomal enzymes have an optimum ph that is acidic
What do lysosomes do in phacoytosis?
= white blood cell forms a vacuole around the bacteria- phagosome
= lysosomes fuse with this and the lysosomal enzymes digest the bacteria and soluable digestion products pass into cytoplasm
What else can lysosomes do?
= destroy organelles
= that are damaged or no longer functioal organelled is surrounded by vacuole., fuses with the membrane and lysosomal enzymes dogesy the orhaelle and this is absorbed in the ctoplasm and reused to make new organelles
What do lysosomes sometimes does with their enzymes?
= transfer their enzumes putside the cell by exocytosis
