Cell Structure: Mitochondria Flashcards
What sort of membrane does the mitochondria have?
= double membrane
= outer mitochondrial membrane
= inner mitochondrial membrane
= between the membranes intermembrane space
What is the fluid of the mitochondria called?
Matrix.
= enzymes involved in respiration are found
= semi-rigid material containing protiens, lipids and traces of DNA- allows mitochondrian to control protien production.
What are the folds in the inner mitochondrial membrane called?
= cristae
= increases surface area for attachment of enzymes involved in respiration.
What can also be found in the mitochondria?
= loop of mitochondrial dna- genes for enzymes involved in aerobic respiration
= contaisn mitochondrial ribosomes- synthesise protiens encoded by the mitochondrial dna
