Tuck et al Flashcards
Tuck et al
found evidence of the right hemispheres ability to process and produce speech. They studied J.W a patient who suffered damage to the left hemisphere but developed the cpaitacity to speak in teh right hemisphere. This indicates the brains ability to adapt significantly following Brian damage and suggests that Joseph may well be able to recover his speech capability after a period of functional recovery
Kuhn et al
Kuhn et al found significant increase in grey matter in various regions of the brain after participants played video games for 30 minutes over a two month period
davidson et al
demonstrated the permeant change in the brain generated by prolonged meditation: buddhist monks who mediated frequently had much greater activation of gamma waves than did students with no experience of mediation
Tajiri et al
found that stem cells provided to rats after brain trauma showed a clear development of neuron like cells in the area of injury. This demonstrates the ability of the brain to create new connections using neruons manufactured by stem cells
Stem cells
Stem cells are also used as a way of removing functions of the brain. these are unspecialised cells that can take on the cheartericts of nerve cells, allowing the brain to create new neural pathways and recover any damage to existing cells that may otherwise prevent effective neurotransmission
