localisation of functions in the brain Flashcards
Locationalstion of function:
the theory that different areas of the brain are responsible for specific behaviours, processs or activities
Motor area:
a region of the frontal lobe involved in regulating movement
Somatosensory area
an area of the parietal lobe that processes sensory information such as touch
Visual area:
a part of the occipital lobe that receives and processs visual information
Audiotory area:
located in the temporal lobe and concerned with the analysis of speech based information
Brocas area:
an area of the frontal lobe in the left hemisphere responsible for speech production
Wernicks area:
an area of the temporal lobe in the left hemisphere responsible for language comprehension
What does damage to motor area cause
loss of control of fine movements
An example of damage to the visual area
damage to the left hemisphere can produce blindness in part of the right visual filed of both eyes
What does damage to the auditory area cause
partially loss of hearing
Damage to wenches area
may affect the ability to comprehend language
What is language resiteced to
it is restictredt to the left side of the Brian in most people
What happened in the 1880s
Paul Broca a surgeon identified small area in the left frontal lobe responsible for speech production
What does damage to Brocas are cause
it causes brooks aphasia which is characterised by speech that is slow, labroious and lacking in fluency.
