Q

Cheniaux

A

cheniaux had two psychiatrists independently diagnose 100 patients using DSM and ICD criteria, and inter-rater reliability was poor as one diagnosed 26 with DSM criteria and 44 with ICD (other one was 13 DSM and 24 ICD). This poor reliability is a weakness of diagnosis of schizophrenia

Q

how does cheniaux affect validity

A

This affects the validity in a way that the diagnosis of schizophrenia is not legitimate and there is a greater likelihood of misdiagnosis.
3. Criterion validity is when different assessment systems arrive at the same diagnosis for the same patient. It would apply her because a concurrent diagnosis will lead to a greater legitimacy, and it is more likely that the patient has the disorder and can work towards curing it.

Q

eval Co-morbidity

A
  • The simultaneous presence of two or more diseases or medical conditions in a patient.
  • Is an issue because those who have schizophrenia often have other syndromes, which means that knowing the cause of a disorder is difficult because a particular behaviour may be the result of another syndrome.
  • Buckley et al. (2009) concluded that around half of patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia also have a diagnosis of depression (50%) or substance abuse (47%).
  • PTSD also occurred in 29% of cases and OCD in 23%.
  • This poses a challenge for the classification and diagnosis of schizophrenia. In terms of diagnosis, there may be a problem in telling the difference between conditions. Classification issues include just classifying one as the other because they occur so commonly together.
  • This confusing picture is a weakness of diagnosis and classification.
