Mesenteric cyst
A congenital thin-walled cyst located between the leaves of the mesentery
Where is a mesenteric cyst most commonly located?
Small-bowel mesentery

- Secretes serous fluid to reduce friction between structures
- Suspends and enfolds organs

An extensive serous membrane lining the entire abdominal wall
What is the peritoneum composed of?
2 layers
What are the 2 layers of the peritoneum?
- Parietal
- lines the cavity - Visceral
- covers the organs
Greater omentum
A transparent double fold of peritoneum that spreads like an apron inferiorly to cover most of the abdominopelvic cavity
What does the greater omentum do in trauma cases? (2)
- Seal hernias

Keeps the small intestines warm
