Urinary pt 4 Flashcards
What are the urinary tracts?
Ureters, urinary bladder, urethra
What is mucosa? First Layer
Transitional epithelium allows for expanse and recoil
What is adventitia? Third Layer
External layer of ureter wall and is collagen and elastic fibers within areolar CT and forms serosa in superior region
Ureters project through bladder wall…
Obliquely
Ureters are innervated by
ANS (parasympathetic and vagus nerve)
What is the trigone?
Little triangular area of bladder walls that form imaginary lines connecting ureter openings and urethra; fills with urine
What are the 4 tunics forming wall of bladder?
Mucosa, submucosa, muscularis, adventitia
What is submucosa?
Lies immediately external to the mucosa
What is the muscularis? (second layer)
Three layers of smooth muscle called the detrusor muscle and involuntary internal urethral sphincter that circles the urethral opening
What is internal urethral sphincter?
Involuntary, smooth muscle, ANS
What is external urethral sphincter?
Skeletal muscle, voluntary sphincter controlled by somatic nervous system
What is female urethra?
Transport urine, stratified squamous epithelium, and opens at external urethral orifice
What is male urethra?
Passageway for urine and semen
What are the three segments of the male urethra?
Prostatic urethra, membranous urethra, spongy urethra
What is the prostatic urethra?
Extends through prostate gland, contains small prostatic ducts, lines transitional epithelium
What is membranous urethra?
Shortest and least dilatable portion and surrounded by muscle fibers
What is spongy urethra?
Longest part of male urethra and extends to external urethral orifice
