Urinary pt 4 Flashcards
What are the urinary tracts?
Ureters, urinary bladder, urethra
What are ureters?
Long strong fibromuscular tubes that conduct urine from kidneys to urinary bladder
What is mucosa? First Layer
Transitional epithelium allows for expanse and recoil
What is muscularis? Second Layer
Longitudinal and outer circular layer of smooth muscle cells that propel urine through ureters into bladder
What is adventitia? Third Layer
External layer of ureter wall and is collagen and elastic fibers within areolar CT
Ureters project through bladder wall…
Obliquely
Ureters are innervated by
ANS (parasympathetic and vagus nerve)
What is the urinary bladder?
Transitional epithelium and expandable, muscular container
What is the trigone?
Little triangular area of bladder walls that form imaginary lines connecting ureter openings and urethra; fills with urine
What are the 4 tunics forming wall of bladder?
Mucosa, submucosa, muscularis, adventitia
What is mucosa? Innermost layer
Transitional epithelium and contains mucosal folds
What is submucosa?
Lies immediately external to the mucosa
What is the muscularis?
Three layers of smooth muscle called the detrusor muscle and involuntary internal urethral sphincter that circles the urethral opening
What is the adventitia?
Outer layer of areolar CT and forms serosa in superior region
What is the urethra?
Epithelial, exits urinary bladder, two sphincters restrict release of urine until bladder pressure is high enough
