What is the axial skeleton?
Composed of bones along central body axis
Skull 2 sets of bone?
Cranial bone (8) and Facial bone (14)
What is the only free bone attached to the skull?
Mandible (lower jawbone)
What is sagittal suture?
Connects left and right parietal bones
What is coronal suture?
Connection between frontal and parietal bones
What is squamous suture?
Connection between temporal bone and parietal bone on
each side of skull
What is lambdoid suture?
Connection of occipital bone with parietal bones
What are the only two single facial bones?
Vomer and mandible
What is cervical vertebral?
Form bones of neck; 7 vertebrae
What are thoracic vertebrae?
Form superior region of the back to ribs; 12 vertebrae
What is lumbar vertebral?
Form inferior concave region (“small”) of the back; 5 vertebrae
What is sacral vertebral?
Laterally articulates with 2 hip bones; 5 vertebrae
What is coccyx vertebral?
Tailbone; 4 vertebrae
