ch 17 endocrine pt 3 Flashcards
Hormones made in hypothalamus by
neurosecretory cells
Hypothalamus secretes what hormones?
Regulatory hormones
Glycogenolysis
Breakdown of glycogen into glucose stimulated
Gluconeogenesis
Conversion of nutrients to glucose stimulated
Glycogenesis
Synthesis of glycogen inhibited
Lipolysis
Breakdown of triglycerides stimulated
Lipogenesis
Formation of triglycerides inhibited
What does follicular cells do?
Produce and release thyroid hormone
What does parafollicular cell do?
Cells between follicles, make calcitonin
What is calcitonin?
Decreases blood calcium levels
Hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid
Energy
Effects of thyroid hormone
Fosters energy (ATP) production, adipose cells stimulate, TH increases respiration rate and heart rate
Acts to decrease blood calcium levels
Inhibiting osteoblast activity and increase excretion of calcium in urine
